Communication In This Dancery

Take a skim read through my CV and you'll see 'Communication' listed under the skills section. Funny thing is I've recently realised how bad I am at communicating. I even study Media and Communication ffs. So I've found myself in a situation where I don't have an immediate friendship circle anymore, I haven't spoken to people I used to speak to everyday for like 8 months. There's kind of this assumption that as we grow older people are busier and communication decreases, just a part of life really. Which is true but does not apply in this circumstance. More like situations happened, things went unsaid and feelings we're bottled in and now the relationship is different but the other person just can't seem to put their finger on it. And even if it's their fault and they hurt your feelings, you're at fault too because you didn't address it and let them know how you feel. You didn't take responsibility. This is actually a real...

It is oh so deep

So today a few conversations reminded me about why I started my podcast #TiaTalks in the first place. Which in hindsight is good because I needed reminding. With everyone and their mother launching podcasts, it's easy to get sucked into the hype and forget the reason why you're doing something. Anyway, Tia Talks...  It's all in the name. You can't be neutral about everything. But I get it now and embrace it, I guess. I am opinionated. I like giving my opinions on topics but what I like even more is hearing other people's opinions. I've learned so much through other people and hearing other's perspectives. I think I'm quite good at looking at several perspectives but I don't think a lot of the people I am around se...

A Yes Man, Is The Best Man

Yes sir, three bags full sir.  'Y-E-S'...   I think that's most people's favourite word because honestly who wants to be told no? 'You feeling my new mixtape?' 'Nah, you know....'  ( Cue the awkward silence.) 'Is this picture good enough to post on the 'gram?' 'Not really you know'.  ( Again, awkward silence...)  To be fair so many of us will ask a question expecting someone to say yes lol. I've come across a lot of texts that emphasise the importance of learning to say no for the sake of your peace of mind or dignity but what happens when you're in an industry or trying to break into an industry where it's who you know, not what you know. The said industry, being the creative industry of course. An industry which can often feel like a popularity contest and saying no may have you falling down the ranks.  It doesn't take long to realise that there's a lot of yes-men in the industry and once you'...
